Ty Jerome scored a career-high 45 points on 17-of-25 shooting (5-of-10 from three) with 7 rebounds, 6 assists and one turnover as Memphis beat Utah 123-103. It's the most points by a Grizzlies player in a season opener, passing Ja Morant's 44 from 2020; Morant was traded to Portland in the offseason. Memphis opened the third quarter on an 18-4 run to lead 82-55. Keyonte George led Utah with 22 and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 15 in his return to Memphis before fouling out. No. 2 pick Darryn Peterson had 9 points, and Memphis rookie Cam Boozer had 7 points and 11 rebounds on 2-of-15 shooting.

"Obviously, I expect to be that type of player. That's why I work every day, right?" — Ty Jerome
"That was a cool moment. I was just really pleased with the crowd to be honest." — Ty Jerome
Fantasy angleJerome is Memphis' starting point guard now: grab him if he's still on your wire. Boozer's 11 rebounds make up for the cold shooting.
